You raise an interesting point. In Europe the taxis do seem to be Mercedes and BMW's and the drivers show up with a jacket and tie. They seem very professional and take their job seriously.
then you get back here and the taxi is a beat up Caprice that smells. The driver is some foreigner who doesn't understand english. Before GPS he also didn't know how to get to the destination.
One time I fly back from London and land in Boston. I'm tired and go to the taxi line. I walk over to the first car in line but the driver is no where to be found. The driver in the second car signals for me to jump in. So I jump in and we start to take off. Out of nowhere the driver of the first car steps in front and stops us. My driver jumps out and the two start yelling at each other. In some foreign language. Its surreal and I feel like I'm in Beirut. My driver shoves the other one onto the sidewalk apparently winning the argument and then off we go.
