    Annoying Low Frequency Vibration Solved

Figured out an annoying rattle was caused by the rubber grommets just under the saddlebags that mount the ends of the mufflers to the chassis. The rubber had hardened and shrunken from the years and was sort of rattling around within the housing with a good 1/16" of clearance.

'02. The rubber really shrunk and hardened from time. With the engine vibration the ends of that exhaust system were bouncing around in that mount. New ones are soft and gummy feeling and fit nice and tight.

Yeah the original motor mount on mine tore quickly. The MoCo updated it to a beefier design that has worked well, and the aftermarket offers polyurethane versions that might be even better yet. Unfortunately rubber deteriorates with time, often independent of miles.
