welcome slim....
take a look at the cap on the mag. sometimes they get carbon tracking or moisture in there and they can have this problem...
let us know...
j
the 2 tips under the cap are clean same with the springs what do u think about what is creatin the org spark that goes through the points to the coil
on a mag, there is a rotor/armature under the plate that creates voltage for the points/condenser. somethimes they need to be rebuilt. you might want to pull the mag and have it checked...
j
just a little tip on those mags , most auto race shops can rebult them in a jeffy even though it is from a bike
Bucket list are for Sissie, men do it while they can enjoy it

rules are not hard to figure out. the challenge is knowing who's exempt

Welcome slim to HCG.
also-
don't know if you checked this, but there are only 9 teeth on the clutch basket that engage the starter ratchet during kicking. if you haven't already, it is worth inspecting the ratchet gear and outer clutch shell for worn teeth- especially if you enjoy walking normally. "sportster knee" occurs when the teeth bypass during a stroke of the leg and thusly allowing your leg to hyperextend and make you limp for a week or so...
j
did the hyperextended leg thing Junior was talking about. Hurts like hell!!!!!!!!!!!!! Problem I had with one once, had a hairline crack in the cap, spark followed the crack. I couldn't even see the crack until the problem got bad enough to burn it out. If you want PM me, and I will explain how to turn that mag into a single fire unit.
thanx's for the responces and really enjoy the site
as far as the ratchet gear it did get replaced and made a big difference
this is just a thought what about pulling the mag and replacing it with a malery ele ignition
