    HB-125 hydraulic tensioner question.

For you guys that have installed an HB-125 primary chain tensioner, did you get much whine at idle? I've got a bit and I know it's usually a symptom of a tight chain. I adjusted the tensioner per the instructions and I think it's ok, but I'm going to back it off a bit more unless somebody out there has some experience with these and tells me it will quiet down. Any info?

    Hi aegis,
I installed the hayden auto tensioner on my softail and experienced a whinning/humming issue, in talking with people some also experienced this (some also had the same one you installed) and supposedly it will quiet down after a few hundred miles, Hayden said mine would quit but never did, as I think Wide told me, as long as everything is tight you should be good to go.

Hey, thanks for the info. I called the guys that make the tensioner and they said the whine at idle is normal and it will quiet down, as you said. Sure sounds tight, but I like the fact that the bike doesn't jerk at all in real slow traffic now.

As the Hayden is one of the parts on my to-do (wish?) list, I tried to find some info on this HB-125 vs the Hayden M6.

All I could find for comparison was that the HB-125 costs ~50% more than the M6...does anyone have familiarity with both?

H-6 is a great thing, been around longer then most folk on this forum.

Simple efficent design that works great, no need for the extra flash in the pan

    Re: HB-125 hydraulic tensioner question.

status so far.... I opted for the hydraulic HB-125. Put it in 2 weeks ago and did 400 miles last weekend. Initially there was a bit of a whine at idle, but that's settling down now. Seems to work great. Less jerkiness in stop and go traffic. Btw... the HB-125 also has a spring. It just supplements the spring pressure with hydraulic actuation. Hopefully the best of both worlds. Time will tell.

    Whine

Great forum, wish I'd seen it sometime in the past 10 years. I just put an HB125 on my 01 fatboy and was really worried about the whine.............I'll relax a little now and hope it goes away in the next couple of weeks.
