Harley Davidson Paint Color Codes

Got a scratch or just want to paint up a new set of body parts to match your ride?
Like the rest of us you found that HD has kept a pretty tight lid on their paint colors. Why? Who the hell knows....It's only paint.
PPG Ditzer has some color codes available that are pretty good matches for the factory paint. We have them listed below thanks to our member Treekiller. These color codes can be mixed at any paint jobber that mixes PPG paints.
Please note, colors are not exact all the time, you may have to tint or adjust your spraying technique to get the best possible color match. We have listed from 1990-2007.

Fixing EVO bases gasket leaks

By BigBoyz Headporting

A common problem with EVO's is base gasket leaks. Many times just replacing the base gasket doesn't solve the problem. The base of the cylinder can change shape over time. Heat, cylinder stud tension and cylinder compression can all take its toll. Lots of base gasket leaks can be attributed to this. The cylinder studs firmly hold the cylinders down in the 4 corners. When the cylinder heats up it expands and the centers between the cylinder studs distort. When changing the base gaskets on an EVO it is good to put the cylinders on a lapping plate and check the bottoms for flatness. Many times you will see that only the stud holes make contact with the lapping plate.

How to identify heads

BigBoyz Headporting explains how to determine model year and casting date of heads.

1.) Year Cast. This represents the actual year the head was cast.

2.) Shows the first Model year this part number was available for. The 99-05 castings all have -99.

3.) Front, Indicates the which head it is. The other option is Rear as shown on some of the other pictures.
